The First Impressions of the Acura NSX for 2003

March 14th, 2009

Acura NSX

One of the staples of the Coupe segment is the Acura NSX. In the previous model year debuted a brand new version of the NSX with one versions: T. Sales for the NSX, especially the NSX T, were brisk during 2003 and 2004. The improved reliability and the sporty styling were responsible for the sales boost.

Acura NSX Engine Specs

The restyled NSX T is equipped with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 24 valves. The VTEC engine is mated to a Honda six-speed transaxle. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2002 version.

The NSX uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The car uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

The fuel system for the 2003 NSX is a traditional PGM-FI, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 17.20 gallons.

Vehicle Statistics

106.90 of wheelbase allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers. It sits 55.50 inches off the ground. It seats a standard four passengers, with 2 doors. The dimensions of the NSX T are 192.00 inches long by 70.60 inches wide.

The standard warranty period for the NSX is 48 months, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the coupe market.

The Acura NSX lists at $30,550 when new. The dealer cost on the car was $28,159.

MPG Ratings

The 2003 NSX gets 28 miles/gallon on the highway and only 19 in the city. This is subpar for a coupe car.

In 2002 and 2003 the NSX T was availble in the exterior colors of Aegean Blue Pearl, Anthracite Metallic, Nighthawk Black Pearl, San Marino Red, Satin Silver Metallic, and Taffeta White. Additional options were available as special orders from the factory.

We Think…

In summation the 2003 Acura NSX T was a great success. Acura responded to critisims about the 2002 NSX and made dramatic changes. The result is a great car and even better coupe. I’m sure Acura has more in store in the future.
