Car of the Year for 2007: The Cadillac XLR V

March 6th, 2009

There have been several award-winning cars from Cadillac over the years, including the Cadillac XLR of 2007. There are two trim levels to the XLR, including Base and V. The V version is one of the more popular options, outselling other configurations. Like in 2006 the popular 4.4 liter Northstar has made this a popular choice for convertible buyers nationwide.

2007 Cadillac XLR V Specs

The restyled XLR V is equipped with a 4.4-liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 32 valves. The Northstar engine is mated to a General Motors six-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2006 version.

The XLR uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The car uses leaf and leaf springs front and rear respectively.

The fuel system for the 2007 XLR is a traditional SFI, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 17.00 gallons.

Statistics

113.40 of wheelbase allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers. It sits 57.30 inches off the ground. It seats a standard five passengers, with 2 doors. The dimensions of the XLR V are 191.50 inches long by 70.60 inches wide.

The standard warranty period for the XLR is 48 months, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the convertible market.

Pricing is a vital consideration when shopping for a car. The Cadillac XLR lists at $51,425 when new. The dealer cost on the car was $47,054. This price was average compared to the industry average price for a 2-door convertible.

MPG Ratings

The XLR V received a miles-per-gallon rating of fifteen in-city driving and twenty four when it came to highway driving. Being a gas-powered non-hybrid car, this was within normal parameters.

In 2006 and 2007 the XLR V was availble in the exterior colors of Black Raven, Infrared, Light Platinum, and Thunder Gray Chromaflair.

What We Think of the Cadillac XLR

There are several reasons why the Cadillac XLR V sold well in 2007. Mainly the increase in availability and a marked improvement in quality meant the buying public was more apt to choose a Cadillac, specifically a XLR.

No less than 5 of my friends have a XLR. I can’t say more than two of them are happy with it…
