Impressions of the Chevrolet Corvette for 1993

March 5th, 2009

The 1993 Corvette is an important vehicle to Chevrolet for the convertible market segment. The Base is a member of a series of three trim levels for the Corvette which include 40th Anniversary Edition, Base, and ZR-1. The two-door car with its rear-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Chevrolet. There is strong competition from vehicles from Lexus.

The Corvette Base is equipped with a General Motors 5.7 liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The Chevrolet engine is mated to a Hydra-Matic 4-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Chevrolet.

The 1993 Corvette’s traditional fuel system runs on gas. The fuel is regulated electronically, with a fuel-injected multi-port fuel injection (MFI) style of design. The fuel tank holds 20.00 gallons.

The Corvette uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The car uses leaf and leaf springs front and rear respectively.

The Corvette is 178.50 inches long, 70.70 inches wide, and 46.30 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 96.20 inches. It is able to seat 2 comfortably.

Cost is always a factor when looking at a car. The Chevrolet Corvette lists at $34,595 when new. The dealer cost on the car was an industry-average price. This price was in line with the industry standard price for a 2-door convertible.

The Corvette Base received a miles-per-gallon rating of seventeen in-city driving and 24 – 25 when it came to long-distance. Being a gas-powered non-green car, this was subpar.

In 1993 the Corvette came in the exterior colors of several colors. Other options were made available by the manufacturer.

The standard warranty period for the Corvette is 60* months, or 50,000* miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the convertible market.

There are several reasons why the Chevrolet Corvette Base sold well in 1993. Mainly the increase in availability and a marked improvement in quality meant the buying public was more apt to choose a Chevrolet, specifically a Corvette.
