An Improved Coupe: The Chrysler Crossfire for 2005

February 14th, 2009

Chrysler Crossfire

Standard equipment in the Crossfire for 2004 and 2005 includes the 3.2 liter engine by Chrysler, weighing in at 6 cylinders and eighteen valves. A 5-speed Automatic Transmission puts the power of the engine to the pavement. This is a long-standing favorite for buyers in the Coupe arena.

The Crossfire uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The car uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

Vehicle Statistics

94.50 of wheelbase allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers. It sits 51.80 inches off the ground. It seats a standard two passengers, with 2 doors. The dimensions of the Crossfire Base are 159.80 inches long by 69.50 inches wide.

The standard warranty period for the Crossfire is 36 months, or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. There is also a warranty on the powertrain for 84 months or 70,000 miles respectively. This is standard in the coupe market.

The manufacturer retail price (MSRP) was $38,195 when new. The dealer cost on the car was $35,276. This price was high compared to the industry average price for a 2-door Coupe.

Fuel Efficiency

For the 2005 Crossfire, the fuel configuration is a electronic SFI, using gasoline for fuel. A fuel-injected MFI configuration. The gas tank holds 15.90 gallons.

The 2005 Crossfire gets 25 – 28 miles/gallon on the highway and only 17 – 21 in the city. This is subpar for a coupe car.

We Think…

The 2004 model began the promise of the Chrysler Crossfire. The 2005 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Chrysler hopes that the Crossfire Base will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
